Variety Pack

Fished with Matt this morning scouting out some new locations and checking up on some old honey holes.  Both produced and we caught a variety of fish including trout, flounder, stripers, spot, croakers, and pinfish.  We also tried a few different lures and techniques that paid off too.  Sometimes you just gotta try some new stuff.  Give me a call to book your trip – (252)455-9790!

Cobia!

Had the privilege to fish with buds Ray and Marc on Rays 23T the Fin-Nagle.  We headed out of the inlet in semi bumpy conditions to start with.  Before long it was howling South 15-20 and getting a little sloppy.  We managed to see about 8 cobia and we caught 4.  Three went into the box a 72 and two 32s. A great way to spend the morning with some great fisherman.  Thanks for the invite fellas!  We all got to bring home a fish for a nice picture, except Marcs was twice the size of ours and we will never hear the end of it!

Tropical Storm Lockjaw

Tommy and I headed out into Kitty Hawk Bay this evening in what felt like the first tropical storm of the season.  That didn’t stop us from giving it a shot.  We ran across the bay in hopes of getting out of the wind to one of my favorite little points. Tommy and I pulled off our first bites.  We didn’t get any more hits for a while, but with the wind blowing so hard, there wasn’t many other options.  We ended up trying one more spot where Tommy pulled out a nice puppy drum. After posing for a quick picture, back in the water it went.  I got skunked, but we scored an epic sunset.

Good Morning Kayak

Fished Kitty Hawk Bay from my kayak for an hour this morning. Wind was relatively light out of the SW. First bite was a trout around 20”. Beautiful fish full of eggs. Anchored up and caught a bunch more keepers in the same zone. Just as the bite seemed to be slowing down I got crushed. The fish peeled drag and really got my adrenaline pumping. Had to be a drum. End up being one of the nicer pups I’ve caught this spring. Drum can really put up a fight, especially on light tackle. All fish were released. Another enjoyable morning on the water.

Still Kickin’

We slipped out for an hour while we had a break in the weather. . . We have had the most erratic and unpredictable weather lately.  The wind was howling all day but it decided to drop out and give us a little window to go find dinner.  We managed two bites, a trout and a flounder.  The time spent from the water to the oven was about 1 hour for these fish.  Doesn’t get much fresher then that!
