Couple lemon fish

My original plans for the day fell through, so I wasted no time with the calm conditions.  Called up a buddy and away we went searching for browns off the beach. . . Conditions were so calm that the glare was terrible.  Fortunately it was so slick that you could actually see the fish making a small wake or “V” on the surface.  We saw 10 or so . . . hooked 2.  Fun day

Sound charter Thursday stay tuned for report! Thanks for checking Salt Minded

Nice red

Went fun fishing with my uncle this afternoon.  It was slow but we managed to hook 2 nice trout that shook off at the boat.  This 22″ red made it in to the box though!

Seen alot caught a little

I have a really hard time not running out of the inlet and looking for something to pull some drag when the conditions look so good.  Headed out of OI  at 0930 with a really light west wind and lake Atlantic conditions. Matt, Graham, and myself where hoping to cross paths with a couple of the cobia that have been cruising around off the beach.  We started off casting at 4 pups as soon as I brought it off plane just to break the ice. . . . No takers…..  We drive around seeing a few here a few there and we just couldn’t manage to hook up! It was killing me.  Finally came tight on one that had to go back in the drink.  I probably could have let him swim in my livewell for an hour and he would have been long enough.  1 for 9 for the day.  Charter in the AM stay tuned for report! Thanks for checking

Outside the box, Inside the tide line

We ran out of the inlet today in search of something that could rip some drag.  Recent reports of decent cobia numbers, and big schools of red drum were enough to entice us into a trip on the ocean.   We ran out of the inlet and headed off pea island to start looking around for cobia.  As soon as we got to the “spot” I ran over a 30 pounder.  We drove around for another hour or two without a siting.   Then we come up on a ray that had a nice fat cobia in tow, but after numerous casts right on the money it headed down to the depths.  We start heading back towards the inlet and we see two more cobia, a 40 pounder and a 5 pounder,  Neither one took the bait.   After getting burnt out on looking for cobia we ran back inside to drift for flounder. The grass was terrible but we did manage to connect on a flattie.  Here is me trying to hold a 6 inch founder as close to the camera as possible. . . All and all a great day on the water with beautiful weather and calm seas.

Fat Cobia

I recently purchased myself a new (to me) boat.  I have instantly fallin’ in love! It is a 22′ Cape Craft Bay with 150 Yamaha. It also has a wireless trolling motor which now, I don’t think I could ever fish without.   Matt, Ken, and myself decided to run it out of the inlet on Wednesday to see if we could get in on the HOT cobia action.  We saw our first pair of cobia about 5 minutes after I brought it off plane.  The conditions on the ocean were absolutely as good as it gets with light and variable winds, a small rolling swell, and crystal clear skies.   Matt is up on the front and he spots a cow about 50 yards away. With a perfect cast the fish turns on the bucktail and its game on!  We get it to the boat and into the box. The first cobia on the new boat is a nice 60 pounder, and a great way to get the day started.  While fighting that fish we had another one approx the same size swim right up to the boat. It turned on the lures but then turned away and down to the depths never to be seen again. Probably not the worst thing to happen as we needed to focus on getting the one we already had hooked into the box.  We continue to see more fish throughout the morning sometimes 3 or 4 at a time.  We caught a total of 7 cobia and we kept 5.  Boat performed great and I can’t wait to get back out there!
