Not photo worthy

My brother and I fished the old manns harbor bridge this evening in our kayaks.  The current was extremely strong.   We trolled from the base of the west side all the way to the high rise with 2 dink stripers to show.  Alot of work for a couple of fish but we probably burned about 2000 calories and it beats sitting on the couch. I didn’t take any photos but I grabbed this one off the internet, it was the best representation of our trip. Heading up to the land of gator trout tomorrow in hopes of a monster. Stay tuned and thanks for checking!

When things go terribly wrong

So, last night was terrible.   What would have been a fun, casual night of fishing with my pals turned into a nightmare and a 3 hour stay at the ER.   Me and my buds Chory and Daniel were fishing and having a good ol’ time catching fish and sharing some laughs.  An hour or so in, Chory hooks up to a full grown one. . . A full grown man that is.  He caught Daniels face with his mirrolure when tossing out a cast.  The lure is hanging from his face with blood everywhere and it appeared to be in his eye!!!  Not good at all.   Luckily, after getting a better look at it, the hooks came within millimeters of his eyeball and one of them actually pierced his eye lid.   Phew, what a relief. . . There was a moment where I really thought that it caught his eyeball and that was the worst feeling ever.  We got him to the ER and he will be making a full recovery.   Although it was a freak accident from a result of terrible timing it served as a reminder of how fast things can go south, and how to always pay attention.  Like my Mom always said “Look both ways before tossing a MirroLure.”    Something along those lines.  Here is a LINK to the photo of the accident (WARNING GRAPHIC!)

Night Ops

My buddy Chory and I were jonesing to catch a fish.  The wind was blowing 25mph out of the NE and it was a bit chilly. . . For some reason, that didn’t stop us.  We packed up and headed to my favorite little night spot to try and get some pullage.  We managed some small stripers and a few puppy drum.  Here is Chory and myself with our 22 inchers.

Ditching everything

Every winter myself, along with a number of others, get obsessed with chasing trophy specks in the “Hot Ditch.”    I have been chasing a double digit trout up there for a few years now.  Here are a few that keep me going back.  Hoping this is the year.  If I get a 10+ I will never go back.

Surfed out

Took my hobie kayak out yesterday evening.  I had surfed for 8 hours a day for 2 days straight so I was actually “surfed out.”   I didn’t even want to surf the rest of the day even though the waves were still cranking.  So I grabbed my kayak, rod, and a pack of gulps and headed to kitty hawk bay.  The bite was just as good as the waves with a bite just about every other cast.  Caught trout and drum for a couple hours and saved a few for dinner. Gotta love the Outer Banks this time of year!  Two charters this week (wed & thurs) so stay tuned for reports and thanks for checking!
