Outside the box, Inside the tide line

We ran out of the inlet today in search of something that could rip some drag.  Recent reports of decent cobia numbers, and big schools of red drum were enough to entice us into a trip on the ocean.   We ran out of the inlet and headed off pea island to start looking around for cobia.  As soon as we got to the “spot” I ran over a 30 pounder.  We drove around for another hour or two without a siting.   Then we come up on a ray that had a nice fat cobia in tow, but after numerous casts right on the money it headed down to the depths.  We start heading back towards the inlet and we see two more cobia, a 40 pounder and a 5 pounder,  Neither one took the bait.   After getting burnt out on looking for cobia we ran back inside to drift for flounder. The grass was terrible but we did manage to connect on a flattie.  Here is me trying to hold a 6 inch founder as close to the camera as possible. . . All and all a great day on the water with beautiful weather and calm seas.

Downpour

I had Jim and his crew out this morning in some unfavorable weather conditions.  I’ve never watched the radar so much in my life.  We took off at 0600 and started catching fish.  Even after all the radar monitoring we still managed to get caught in the motherload of downpours (sorry guys).  Screaming down the sound at 40mph when its raining like that doesn’t feel very good.  So we get back to the dock and the guys head back to their cottage to fill up on eggs and bacon.  An hour later we head back out and give it another shot.  We had clear conditions with some light wind for a change.  We got a ton of hits, we missed alot of fish, but we also caught quiet a few. These guys had a great time and I enjoyed their company.  Enjoy your trout and we will see you guys next year!

Stevie and his Striper

I had Stevie, David, Jack, and Ken with me this morning.  We caught a bunch of trout right out of the gate.  The catch of the day was Stevies pretty striper that ate a gulp shrimp. Great fight on light tackle! A very enjoyable morning with great conditions and great company. Call me to book your trip the fish are biting! (252)455-9790

Hunter & crew trout slaughter

I had Hunter and his crew this morning for some speckled trout fishing.  We had great action from start to finish as we limited out on specks. We also found a nice keeper drum in the mix.  We spent last hour of the trip trying for a flounder. We hooked one but it was about 8 inches.  Thanks guys!

In the afternoon I had Todd and his stepson Dustin on board with me to get off land and put some meat in the box.  We had alot of action, but the fish shrunk from this morning so alot of them were short strikes or non keepers.  We ended up with enough for dinner, but plenty of smiles and a great memory for them. Thanks a lot, lets do it again guys!
