Visit from Pops

My Pops came down to visit my brother and I to spend some quality time.  Of course, that meant fishing.  We headed out around 0700 and fished for a couple hours in our backyards.  The wind is still howling but we found some sheltered spots and some fish.  We caught keeper trout, pups, a striper, and the biggest spot I’ve ever seen.  Finished up fishing around 0930 and stuffed our faces with Jolly Rogers breakfast. Great times! Check out the triple header 3 species

Kayaking out of the wind *video*

My brother and I linked up with Kitty Hawk Surf Company and Hobie Kayaks to help spread the stoke on these awesome kayaks.   I will never use a paddle again, that is for sure!  My buddy Chory and I headed out to a spot a little south to try to get out of the all this NE wind.  The creeks are small here so it can only get but so bad.   Well, it was still pretty windy but the Hobie made it super easy to navigate around and still fish while manuevering the kayak in the wind.   We managed to catch plenty of small trout, a flounder, a sea mullet, a grey trout, a white perch, and a couple solid slot pups.  Fun times!  I threw together a little vid for you guys, check it out!

Big drum from the beach . . . . kinda

Some people say that my method of catching these fish is up for debate.  However, it works. . . really good. . . Since I can only throw a heaver about 40 yards, I decided the better option was to simply leave my rod on the beach, put it in free spool, set the bait in my kayak, paddle it out a couple hundred yards and drop it off the side.   The extra distance can make a huge difference.  Ken and I headed up to give it a go last night with the super calm conditions.  We had consistant action with runs about every 20 minutes.  We missed alot of fish but we also caught a handful.  It may not be the traditional way to catch these things, but it sure does work.

Lunch break

Ken and I slipped out mid day in my boat for a little lunch break fishin’. . . Ken has been working alot as a new real estate agent here on the Outer Banks. I would give you his information, but I would prefer that you use my wife for all of your real estate needs =) . Anyways, we caught some quality fish today with a handful of throwbacks in the mix. I picked up a couple nice trout and ken hits this 23″ flounder to top it off.

No pic reports

I have a couple reports that are lacking in the photo department. For some reason I didn’t get the camera out and snap a few. Still getting trips and catching fish. I had a group of 2 out the other day playing frogger with rain clouds. During the dry patches we found throwback drum, a handful a keeper trout, and small flounder. I had three fellas from Maryland with me today. . . It was an awesome trip with great company but an average bite. We caught a lot of throwback puppy drum, some trout, and a few flounder that were just shy of the legal size. SO CLOSE! Thank you everyone for fishing with me over the past few months! See you all next year. . . . I hope =)
