Full moon (2 day report)

I’m searching for excuses as to why the fishing was so slow today…… I am going to go ahead and blame it on the full moon.  I had an awesome group of 5 with me this morning.  I headed to a spot that I really wanted to fish – but I had never gotten my boat in there.  I slowly putted into this shallow flat – that just kept getting shallower.  It wasn’t long before I was in the water pulling the boat off the sand.   It was a rough start.  We ended up catching 1 in there.  The weather was turning, and the radar looked like some of my 6 month olds artwork.  I through out the idea of going to get some breakfast and let it pass.

We headed to TLs together and sat down and stuffed our faces.   We kept waiting for the rain to pass – but it never really did.  It just hung around for a while.  We decided lets just go fishing.

Once we got back out there the weather finally started to clear.  It was still some very tough fishing with only throwback trout and flounder to show.   We grinded hard and bounced around but never really found a good bite.   I very enjoyable morning, and some fish in the box would have just been a cherry on top.  Thanks alot guys – hope to see you next year!

Yesterday I had a split boat trip with Bryan Dehart.  We caught flounder and drum. We found an awesome bite right at the tail end of the trip.

Tim & Company

Back at it again this morning with Tim and company.   We stayed out of the rain most of the day, but we did get sprinkled on there for a minute.  Fished for puppy drum first thing, and caught one about 17″ first.  I haven’t seen one that size in a while. They have either been slot size or 12″.  Anyways, we hung around and pulled one more keeper drum out of there.  Headed to another spot and picked up a keeper flounder.  Bounced around a bit with no bites, and finally Tim puts a nice fat drum in the box.   Thanks for joining me – you guys are great.

That’s why they call it “fishing”

Marc and I had a 2 boat trip this morning.  We had a group of 6 who decided to split up 3 and 3.  We had some tough fishing!  I get really bummed out when someone gets referred to me and the fishing is slow.  When the line “that’s why they call it fishing” comes out, its makes my stomach turn!  We started out the morning with a puppy drum after about 20 mins of fishing.  Decent start…. We stayed in the same area for a while and never found another bite.

I made a move to a popular spot that didn’t have any boats in it, I was hopeful.  We fished it hard and pulled off 1 puppy drum right at the boat.  After that things went pretty quite for a couple hours.  We popped a small trout somewhere in there.

The wind started to crank up around mid day – and made some spots unfishable.  We tucked away behind some points and managed a small keeper flounder.  These guys fished hard – and were great company. I wish we could have had a better bite today.  Thanks for joining me guys!

Dale & Company

Half day charter this morning with some great company.   We had a slow start at the first stop with a small trout to show.  Made a move and it was game on – we had a triple up just a few minutes after stopping.  One of them came unbuckled, but we put 2 in the box.  Hung around and picked off a few more in the same area.  The wind was slick calm so we ran out in the inlet for a minute to see if we could come up on a cobia, but the heavy cloud cover had other plans for us.  Came back inside and picked up a couple more drum and a short flounder.  Fun times guys – thanks for joining me!

Don’t wait – Book soon!

Hey guys and gals.  I had a group of six from Tennessee with me for a half day trip.  I typically recommend no more then 4 “grown ups”.   We squeezed on and made it work, somehow it worked great.  These guys were in a rhythm, and no new piercings for any of them.  We caught speckled trout and flounder, with a couple random bottom fish in the mix.  Fun time with these guys, thanks for joining me!

Also, if you are planning to fish this summer, you need to book soon.  My summer dates are filling up (July 4th week has a few openings but not many). Call me and lets get your trip lined up.
