Freezing Evening

28 Air temp, 46 water temp. Patrick and I were ice skating on the boat. Got a few studs. Haven’t been fishing the Ditch nearly as much as the past few years, but each trip produces one over 27″ along with plenty of mid 20s fish.  This is the first winter that the power plant will not be pumping hot water.  Nobody really knows what to expect as the water temp continues to drop.   We haven’t had a problem getting them to bite yet!10858377_10205089385651556_4380165199499795041_n

Florida trip

Just returned home from a pretty long stay in the New Smyrna Beach area as well as a week in Disney World.  I drove down a few days before early to get in some fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon.  Really enjoyed exploring some new grounds and finding some solid fish.  I caught redfish the first couple days, and got on an excellent topwater trout bite on my last evening in the lagoon.  I also drove south to Merrit Island one of the days when it was super windy and hopped on a boat with Capt Willy Le of Native Fly Charters to try and land my first tarpon.  Great trip!

More Specks

Made another trip up – this time with my Dad and Brother.  We had a slow start , but ended up finding a really good bite in the end.  Here is Matt with a nice 26″er that he caught right before we got run out by the weather.  Always a fun day with my Dad and Brother.   I am running a striper charter later in the week so stay tuned for a local report, and thanks for checking!

Specks in the ER

My buddy Patrick and I headed up early morning to crank on some trout, then maybe put a deer down in the afternoon for our first annual Cast & Blast.   Patrick and his wife are expecting a baby boy any day now – so we had to have a last hoorah!   The casting portion of the trip was pretty successful.  We caught a bunch of healthy specks, including a plump 27″ fish.   I can’t wait to run a few charters up here in the next couple weeks.  The fishery on the Elizabeth River is world class for speckled trout.  Give me a shout when you are ready to get in on the action!
