New boat!!! Snook & Tripletail too

I drove to FL again on Monday night / Tuesday  to go check out a boat.  It was love at first sight!  After an hour and a half with her, I decided it was time to tie the knot.   I am so stoked to bring to you guys the Action Craft Coastal Bay 2310TE. This boat is hands down the PERFECT boat for inshore / nearshore fishing on the Outer Banks. It has tons of room at 24′ long with higher then average gunnels for a bay boat.  It has front and rear casting decks, plenty of comfortable cushioned seating, a bathroom for my family trips, super shallow draft, power pole, trolling motor, the list goes on and on, but the bottom line is you just have to book with me and experience this thing for yourself!

While I was down in SW Florida I decided to bring my kayak.  After the boat thing I launched and caught my very first (and second) snook! WOW! I wish we had these fish here.  They run, jump, flip, twist, and everything you want in a game fish.  Good times!

Next, I met up with my buddy Alex at Local Lines Charters in Merritt Island FL and we did some triple tail fishing.  Another first for me and I got to check it off the list!  I had a blast with Alex, and I highly recommend him if  you are down that way.

PS: Look for some much better photos of the boat as well as a video feature.  First things first, shes getting wrapped! We may not catch the most fish, but we will look the best doing it, HA!!!!

Bound for the Lagoon

My brother Matt and I did a week long road trip down to the Mosquito Lagoon in sunny Florida.  We left the house and it was 19 degrees out, and we arrived in mid 70s sunshine.  We had a blast fishing from sun up to sun down every day, with some great surfing thrown in the mix.  Very enjoyable trip.  Not to mention, the fishing was awesome! Here are a couple teaser photos, we have tons of video footage, and I’ll put it link up when it’s done. Thanks for checking!

Update: here is the video link, ENJOY!

Not so Hot Ditch

Matt and I headed up yesterday afternoon because we were desperate to catch some fish.   We usually don’t go up the days after a hard rain because the water looks like chocolate milk.  Well, sure enough – it looked like chocolate milk.  We knew we were doomed as soon as we pulled up to the launch.   Fished for a couple hours with only 1 trout to show.  The water temps are in the low 40’s and the fish just won’t move a whole lot to eat your bait.  When the water is super dirty – they are VERY inactive.   Oh well – I did burn some calories.

Frozen Redfish

After a brutal cold snap – the puppy drum finally pushed out of the sound.  Fish are being caught in and around the inlet and beaches.  This is the same scenario we had last year – and we enjoyed excellent fishing during what would typically be a very slow time of year.  Well, they are back – and they are bigger! I headed down this afternoon and bagged a couple on the fly rod.   Sure is nice to have some fish to pull on close to home.

Bucketmouths

Hope you all had a great Christmas!!!  I know my family and I sure did.  The kids have a ridiculous amount of new toys.  I can’t see the floor of my house….

My Pops got me a TWs gift card for Christmas, so of course I was in there the next day.  I picked up a new trout reel.  The reel is a new for 2015 Diawa Procyon 2500.  My overall first impression was I was very impressed.  Smooth and solid – the drag feels great.  Only time will tell how well this reel holds up.  I threw a Strike King slow sinking twitch bait and managed a few nice bass.  Gotta love throwing on the waders, leaving your house, and catching bass in 5 minutes.
